So before buying the geo-fencing software from a provider not only you have to know what a geo-fence is but also need to ask your provider some question about the service they provide. Here are some points that will help you to purchase your geo-fencing platform:

1.    Shape of the fence: Before buying geo-fencing platform for your business from a provider, make sure you ask about the shape and size of the fence. The necessity to know this before hand is due to the service provide by most of the most of the geo-fencing company. In many cases it is found that the providers mainly allow creating a fence of circular shape with different size that can be the size of a city. Not necessarily every location where you need to set the fence is a circular zone, so before buying check if the platform can create other shapes as well.

2.    Monitoring location: It become very convenient for you if you can monitor many location at the same time. To know this ask your provider beforehand, because many provider only allow up to 20 places to monitor at once. This can create hindrance for your work if you have more than 20 locations to monitor. In the market there are other providers also available that allow you to monitor without the restriction of 20 locations.

3.    No hardware: Geo-fence can be set without needing any beacon. To set the geo-fence the provider just need to integrate a plug-in into the buyer’s mobile app (SDK). The reason for this is compared to an iBeacon, a Smartphone has more sophisticated sensors onboard so no additional hardware require.

4.    The requirement of opening app: Geo-fence platform is more effective to your business when it can work passively. In other words you do not need to reliant on the customer whether the app is open or not. This makes more sense as there is no guarantee that when a customer enters your fence they will open your app at the same time. Since some geo-fencing companies that provide the service will require the app to be open in the time the customer enters the fence which is highly unlikable, so make sure to buy software that can work passively.
